Jaw deformity surgery is used to correct disproportion of the jaws e.g.lower jaw too far forwards or too far back, upper jaw too far forwards or too far back and jaws too tall or too short for symmetry of the face.
The operations used are known as osteotomies, or orthognathic surgery. Most often this type of surgery is done in conjunction with orthodontic treatment so that a comfortable bite is provided at the end of treatment.
